The Cadillac-V Series lineup has produced successful luxury mid-size sedans, with the performance-oriented 2019 Cadillac CTS being a notable gem. But with the entry of the all-new 2023 Cadillac CT5, it’s hard to tell how the already discontinued 2019 Cadillac CTS will fare against this worthy successor.

In this article, we’ll highlight the main differences between these two vehicles so you can decide whether to upgrade to the all-new 2023 Cadillac CT5 or just stick with your current Cadillac for another year or two.

2019 Cadillac CTS vs. 2023 Cadillac CT5

The Cadillac CT5 has been completely redesigned for 2023, and there are some significant changes from the previous generation. Available in three models, Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Sport, the 2023 Cadillac CT5 is truly committed to replacing the 2019 Cadillac CTS. But will it succeed?

With a number of key similarities and notable differences, the battle between these two mid-size sedans will ultimately come down to preference.

Both vehicles are excellent choices for a luxurious sedan, offering comfortable rides, performance, and luxury, all in a stylish design. In addition, both have leather seats and steering wheels, and their interiors boast stylish wooden trim. You also get to enjoy standard features such as climate control, cruise control, and a host of safety and driver assist features such as rear parking aid and tire pressure monitor when you purchase any of the vehicles.

However, it’s important to note that the main differences between the new 2023 Cadillac CT5 and the 2019 Cadillac CTS are in performance and design. The 2019 Cadillac CTS has a sportier feel, while the 2023 Cadillac CT5 radiates more of relaxation and luxury.

CTS vs. CT5: Design Enhancements

The 2023 Cadillac CT5 features a variety of design enhancements that make it a significant upgrade over the 2019 Cadillac CTS. For starters, the front end has been completely redesigned, giving the car a more modern look. The grille is now wider and taller, and the headlights and tail lights have been slimmed down and made more angular. The result is a car that looks sportier and more aggressive than its predecessor.

In addition, the CTS lacks a lot of must-have modern technology essentials like a heads-up display and a host of other driver assist features, making it less superior in terms of the overall design.

CTS vs. CT5: Performance Specs

While both come standard with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, they greatly differ in terms of performance. The CT5’s 4-cylinder engine produces 237 horsepower and 258lb-ft of torque, while the CTS engine gives 265 horsepower and 295lb-ft of torque. The CT5 engine is backed by a 10-speed automatic transmission while the CTS has an 8-speed automatic transmission, but somehow, the CTS still has the upper hand in performance.

Besides the fact that it has more horsepower than the CT5, the lower curb weight, sport-tuned suspension, traction and stability controls, and sharper handling all contribute to its good performance.

It’s also worth noting that the CTS has better engine options, with the standard being the 2.0L turbocharged four-cylinder engine and the top option being a 6.2L supercharged V8 engine giving 640 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. In contrast, the top engine option on a CT5 is a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 engine producing 360 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque.

Deciding Between the CTS and CT5

If you’re trying to decide between the Cadillac CTS and CT5, there are a few key things to keep in mind. The CTS is an older model, so it might not have all the bells and whistles of the newer CT5. However, it’s still a luxurious car and would make a great addition to any garage.

Generally, the choice between these two icons depends on your needs and preference. For example, if you’re looking for nothing but performance, the CTS would be your better choice. However, if you’re more into luxury and driving convenience, then the new 2023 Cadillac CT5 would be a worthy purchase.

Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing: Specs and Features

The Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is the high-performance variant of the Cadillac CT5 and is currently the most powerful Cadillac ever made. It is powered by a twin-turbocharged 6.2L V8 engine that produces 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque. The CT5-V Blackwing clocks 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, reaching an enviable top speed of over 200 mph. It comes standard with rear-wheel drive and 6-speed manual transmission, but an all-wheel drive and/or a 10-speed automatic transmission are available as an option.

Other features include Magnetic Ride Control adaptive suspension dampers, heads-up display, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, active steering, and variable-ratio steering rack, among a host of other driver assist features. Standard features on the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing include LED headlights, leather upholstery, heated and ventilated comfortable front seats, climate control, panoramic sunroof, heated exterior mirrors with turn signal indicators, heated steering wheel, 19-inch alloy wheels with high-performance tires.

The 2022 Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing is definitely a formidable foe for any vehicle in its class, such as the best of the BMW 5 Series, the BMW M5, and the Mercedes-AMG E63. With its impressive specifications and features, it’s a no-brainer that this high-performance Cadillac was made for the track.
